Hold up, the LAST update of what's in my bag was exactly six years ago. How crazy is that? I was just 24 years old at the time with her own handbag which I remember I loved to death because it was one of those squishy leather old-fashioned bags. I still have a post of it here in my blog (!).
My taste in bags and the things I keep with me have drastically changed since then. In fact, I notice I carry more stuff with me now that I'm older, I feel more reassured having all that I need on my person.
My bags these days are much larger than the teeny ones I had before. My priority—to fit a minimum of two books—one is my current main book and the second, is a backup in case I'm not in the mood for the first. I also carry around a book sleeve to keep it safe and pristine and that in itself also takes up some space.
Handbag
This latest bag that I recently acquired after two months of eyeing it on the shelves is Dr. Cardin's Dome Big Glossy Sling Bag in silver. It's pretty big and has one zipped pocket inside. It doesn't have separate compartments which can be a pro or con for some people. For me, it's perfect to stuff everything in one place and find items quickly. I've had this bag for almost month and I bring it everywhere, to malls and even weddings. It's pretty versatile because of the colour and the minimalist design.
Book sleeve & back-up book
I had to buy a book sleeve because the new books I read keep looking battered after tumbling in my bag after a few trips. I bought this one on Shopee and supposedly, it comes with an elastic string to button the sleeve shut but... my cat bit it off and now it just stays constantly open.
I also just rediscovered my love for Jacqueline Wilson's books after coming back to my family's home and found my old stacks of her books. I brought some with me to my place and starting with Lola Rose!
A notebook is also a must. I'm a writer, an amateur one but I insist to bring it everywhere I go to collect any random ideas I have to write about.
Main book
I will always have at least ONE book in my bag and right now, I'm currently reading this copy by Brandon Sanderson. It's massive but I make it fit in my bag no matter what.
Lipsticks, inhaler, portable fan...
Being older is also about discovering you have some allergy or condition you never knew you had. I have asthma so the inhaler (supposedly there are two types, can't find the other one here) follows everywhere I go.
I love using hand creams now! I have the driest hands I've ever seen on someone's body; I don't know what I did to them but anyway, a hand cream comes in handy. Sometimes my husband also asks for a swab too!
As for lipsticks, there's usually about 5-9 of them in my bag on a good day. You just never know what you need so I rather bring all the different shades I own. My current favourite lipstick is from the brand Girl Cult. I LOVE their shade ranges and fragrance.
The most compulsory item in my bag, other than my wallet, is my portable fan. I absolutely CANNOT stand our tropical heat. Yes, I have tan skin and yes, I've lived in Malaysia long enough to adapt to the weather here, but I've always been the kind of person who just... melts in the heat. So a fully charged fan is a must!
What about YOU? What are your must-haves in your handbag?
